Greeneye Technology Precision Spraying System Now Available for Cotton
Greeneye has already secured multiple sales with cotton farmers in the U.S., who will begin using the system at the start of the 2025 growing season
Tel Aviv, Israel - 22nd January 2025 - Greeneye Technology, the pioneer of precision spraying technology that is proven to reduce non-residual herbicide use in farming by an average of 87%, today announces the expansion of its cutting-edge system to include cotton crops. This advancement follows extensive research and development field trials conducted last year to tailor the Greeneye system for cotton, building on its proven success with corn and soybean.
Cotton farmers face numerous weed control challenges, including longer growing seasons that require multiple herbicide applications, wide row spacing that promotes weed growth, and the growing problem of herbicide resistance. Greeneye's AI-enabled system addresses these challenges by precisely targeting herbicide application to weeds using real-time, sub-millimeter precision. This approach significantly reduces herbicide usage, lowers costs, and enhances weed control efficacy, while providing flexibility for both pre- and post-emergence applications.
Greeneye has already secured multiple sales with cotton farmers in the U.S., who will begin using the system at the start of the 2025 growing season. Among them is Texas producer Dudley Pohnert, who farms approximately 8,000 acres of cotton, corn, milo, and wheat.
Cotton Producer, Dudley Pohnert, explains: "Herbicide resistance is a major challenge across all crops, but it's especially tough with cotton. Despite using the most effective tank mixes available, we're not seeing the results we need. In fact, we should be spraying our cotton fields twice as often as we do, but the high cost of chemicals makes that unfeasible.
"Upgrading our existing John Deere sprayer with the Greeneye system will give us the flexibility to spray more frequently, including at night or in dusty conditions—critical for working around the storms we often face in June. Despite spraying more often, we expect to reduce our annual herbicide use by 25-40%, with our investment paying off within two to three seasons. The one-time cost with no ongoing subscription fees was another key reason we chose the Greeneye system, as I believe in fully owning what I purchase."
Greeneye's retrofit solution is engineered to seamlessly integrate with any commercial sprayer, regardless of brand, model, or size, eliminating the need for farmers to invest in a costly new machine. Its dual-line configuration allows both precision and broadcast spraying to be performed simultaneously, further enhancing efficiency while also adhering to agronomic best practice.
In the R&D field trials carried out last year, the Greeneye system's advanced sensor was used to capture hundreds of thousands of images of cotton plants and common weeds in real-world farming environments. These images were then used to train the system's proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) to accurately identify and distinguish between cotton plants and weeds at different growth stages and under varying conditions, such as fluctuating weather patterns. This precision enables the Greeneye's system to target and treat only the weeds with extremely high accuracy at travel speeds of up to 15 mph.
Nadav Bocher, CEO of Greeneye Technology, says: "Greeneye is transforming weed control in the U.S. with our advanced precision spraying technology, offering proven cost savings, enhanced efficacy, and greater sustainability. Weed control is particularly resource-intensive for cotton producers who face the added challenge of frequent spraying. With today's announcement, we are excited to extend the game-changing benefits of Greeneye precision spraying to U.S. cotton farmers."
