MicaSense Releases 10-Band Solution for Drone/Satellite Comparisons, Coastline Monitoring, Vegetation Research

The drone sensor company announced today that they are expanding the RedEdge-MX line with a synchronized dual camera system covering Landsat 8 and Sentinel bands and featuring the new RedEdge-MX Blue.

MicaSense has released the RedEdge-MX Dual Camera Imaging System, a 10-band multispectral solution for advanced multispectral imaging applications that features RedEdge-MX and the new RedEdge-MX Blue. Consisting of two cameras yet utilizing the same workflow as one, the Dual Camera System is the easiest way to capture the data needed for cutting-edge vegetation research and drone/satellite comparisons.

Along with the standard bands of the RedEdge-MX, the RedEdge-MX Blue features a new group of five filters including a coastal blue band and two new red edge bands.

With uses like shallow-water environmental monitoring and detailed chlorophyll efficiency analysis, twice the available bands truly means twice the analytical capabilities. Additionally, this is the first solution that captures the bands of Landsat 8 and Sentinel satellites enabling direct data comparison between satellite and drone data. With this solution, researchers and agricultural enterprises can now directly compare drone and satellite imagery to model trends and better predict yield into the future.

"Our scientific community brought the RedEdge-MX Blue to life with the need to capture more multispectral bands in a simple workflow. With the Dual Camera System, users don't need to upgrade their drone platform or processing pipeline - the RedEdge-MX Blue integrates seamlessly with the RedEdge-MX and available processing workflows to create a simple and accurate 10-band solution. Having the same sensors in the hands of researchers and growers ensures that when research results are found, they can be applied effectively," said Justin McAllister, MicaSense CTO.

Included with the two cameras is an integrated quick mounting bracket and wiring harness for DJI drones, ensuring that the 10-band kit is as simple to use as a single camera. Standard data processing workflows from Pix4D and Agisoft enable creation of 10 band, pixel-aligned datasets with unlimited analysis potential. Additionally, current RedEdge-MX and RedEdge-M customers can purchase an upgrade package allowing them to take full advantage of the 10 band offering.

"We are pleased to offer new and existing customers the simplest and most cost-effective solution for an easy upgrade to their system for 10-bands of data. The RedEdge-MX Dual Camera System has resulted from tremendous market demand for expanding our existing 5-bands for correlations to lower-resolution satellite data, and the desire to have a plug-n-play solution for the most commonly used aircraft. Those considering hyperspectral for plant research should look at this solution first," commented Eric Waters, MicaSense General Manager.

The RedEdge-MX Dual Camera Imaging System is available for order today through the MicaSense website and through MicaSense partners around the world, including but not limited to:
