GroGuru Selected as a Finalist for Connect’s 2019 Most Innovative New Product Awards

The GroGuru Wireless Underground System (WUGS) for Strategic Irrigation Management offers a Breakthrough for Farmers

Today, GroGuru announced that its Wireless Underground System, or WUGS, for strategic irrigation management has been selected as a finalist in Connect w/ San Diego Venture Group's Most Innovative New Product Awards (MIP). Connect w/ SDVG, a premier innovation company accelerator in San Diego that creates and scales great companies in the technology and life sciences sectors, continues its thirty-two year tradition of celebrating innovation leaders in the local San Diego community.

GroGuru is all about strategic irrigation management. They help farmers make more money by increasing crop yield while, at the same time, more efficiently using water and other scarce resources in a sustainable way. The GroGuru patented WUGS solution enables the permanent installation of soil sensors in annual field crops like corn and soybeans, eliminating the need for annual installation and removal of sensors required by all competitive alternatives in the market. GroGuru then uses machine learning and other data in the cloud to give farmers recommendations about when and how much to irrigate.

"We are delighted to be selected as a finalist for the very prestigious Connect Most Innovative Product Award in the Cleantech category," said Patrick Henry, president and CEO of GroGuru. "It is not often that a company develops a true breakthrough technology enabling something so important to customers, much less farmers who really need help to solve major problems and do it in a sustainable way. The GroGuru WUGS-enabled solution is a total game changer for annual field crop farmers."

Finalists were selected in the following seven categories: Big Data, Cleantech, Defense, Life Sciences & Healthtech, Medical Device, Smart City & Transportation, and Software.

The 2019 MIP Awards presentation will be held at the Innovation Awards dinner on December 5 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, 3777 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. Each of the finalists will be featured in the Innovation Showcase and the winner in each category will be announced live during the dinner.

About GroGuru

GroGuru is a privately held company based in San Diego, CA that provides precision soil and irrigation monitoring systems to the commercial agriculture industry. GroGuru is focused on enabling farmers to increase crop yields while optimally use water, energy and other scarce resources in a sustainable way. GroGuru sells an innovative hardware-enabled subscription-based solution to farmers that enables optimal irrigation. GroGuru's 100 percent wireless underground system (WUGS) enables a permanent installation of soil sensors, even in annual field crops like corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton and sorghum, that have a destructive harvest. GroGuru's WUGS-based systems can be buried below the till depth and communicate through several feet of soil wirelessly, thus eliminating the need for the sensors to be annually installed and removed for seeding and harvesting, respectively, for these annual crops. GroGuru is a portfolio company at the EvoNexus technology incubator, the premier technology incubator in Southern California.

How to overcome GNSS limitations with RTK correction services

How to overcome GNSS limitations with RTK correction services

Although GNSS offers ubiquitous coverage worldwide, its accuracy can be hindered in some situations - signals can be attenuated by heavy vegetation, for example, or obstructed by tall buildings in dense urban canyons. This results in signals being received indirectly or via the multipath effect, leading to inaccuracy, or even blocked entirely. Unimpeded GNSS positioning in all real world scenarios is therefore unrealistic - creating a need for supporting technologies, such as real time kinematic (RTK) positioning and dead reckoning, to enable centimeter-accuracy for newer mass-market IoT devices.
